Leeds Gallery

Leeds Gallery is an independent, commercial art gallery exhibiting a broad range of mediums. It has been open a year and was set up from savings as the curators wanted to steer clear of funding. The gallery space is fairly small yet versatile and easy to navigate your way round. There is a reasonable amount of floor space, making the exhibition of installations possible. Despite being in the city centre, unlike other gallery's in Leeds, you would have to know of its existence and whereabouts prior to your visit. It's positioning suggests that it's target audience is creative individuals who have done their research beforehand as opposed to the general public. The adjoining cafĂ© has a positive effect on the gallery space in that it allows for a more relaxed, accessible overall atmosphere. It also generates enough money to allow the curators to occasionally put on non profit exhibitions.

The current exhibition showcases the results of a competition entitled the Sun Awards open to photographers based in the north of England. The work is all smartly presented and of a high standard.
